PERSONAL STATEMENT

Earlier in the year I had been virtually promised that a leading Sunday newspaper would publish an article I had researched and written about sexual abuse within the Jesus Army. The article never appeared, however, and nor was I given a proper explanation. Once again, I suspect that there were things going on behind the scenes that had an influence - and I know that the newspaper was worried about possible litigation.
Everything in the article, however, is 100% true; and it could also be substantiated in court if necessary.
But then my father then became seriously ill for several months following major heart surgery, and travelling to Luton to look after my parents seemed more important than chasing up newspaper editors!
Given the lapse of time, I have now made the text of the article available via a link at the top of this page (and also below).
The fear of litigation gives me the heebie jeebies as much as it would do to anyone! But there are four main factors which have persuaded me to overcome my nerves and make this article feely available:

1. My motivation has always been to expose what I believe to be the truth about the JA so that there will be some who are helped by my doing so. There are a number of people, some of them vulnerable, who seem to be genuinely thankful for the help I've been able to give. I apologise if this sounds 'grandiose', but I feel I owe it to people like this (some of whom have become close friends) to keep speaking what I believe to be the truth
2. Nothing I have written has been exaggerated or written 'for effect'
3. I have ALWAYS been deeply influenced by the Amnesty International mission statement: "it is better to light a candle than curse the darkness"
4. The Jesus Army have little, if any, uncompromised interest in helping people who are in genuine need of help for one reason or another. It's about time that someone stood up and said, loudly and clearly: "All the Jesus Army want to do is convert you to their own way of thinking and lifestyle". The JA sees 'The World' and 'The kingdom of God' as two entirely different universes. They have no interest in making the world we live in a better place, only in getting people to become part of the 'Kingdom of God'. This, I would suggest, is why there is so much scope for individual harm and abuse, especially within the 'community part' of the JA. They are so convinced that what they have built is 'God's Kingdom on earth' that they live under an entirely seperate set of rules and regulations. It's only when they come into conflict with the law of the land, as happened with the sex offence case earlier this year, that the truth about what is going on comes to light. The Barring and Vetting regulations, although they probably need reviewing in certain areas, were set up to protect vulnerable children and adults from sexual harm and violence. These regulations need to be enforced vigorously within the Jesus Army, and if it means that they have to change their way of life so that potential sex offenders and children are not resident under the same roof, then so be it!

Vital answers to vital questions.

The title of this site, JEANNI, is an inheritance from the past which is probably a bit misleading...it never quite developed in the way in which I originally hoped it would; but for the sake of continuity, I have retained the title.

The main service which this site has provided has been in the personal correspondence I have had with those who have written to me for advice and help: Jesus Army members, relatives, friends and other concerned parties. This service will remain exactly as it was, and my contact information is given at the top of this page.
